New Year’s Resolutions: Small Steps for Big Changes

As we step into the new year, I’ve been reflecting on the small shifts I want to make to create a more fulfilling and joyful life. Resolutions don’t have to be grandiose or overwhelming. For me, they’re about small, meaningful actions that align with my values and goals. Here’s what I’m focusing on this year:

1. Put on My Running Shoes

When I go out for a walk, I’ve decided to wear my running shoes. Why? Because it’s one less barrier to starting a run. Running has always been something I’ve wanted to incorporate into my routine, but the thought of getting started often feels daunting. By making it easier to transition from walking to running, I’m setting myself up for success. Even if it’s just a short jog, I know this small step can lead to bigger strides.

2. Wake Up 15 Minutes Earlier

This year, I’m carving out time for meditation by waking up just 15 minutes earlier. Ten minutes of meditation each morning can make a world of difference in setting the tone for the day. It’s a way to ground myself, clear my mind, and start each morning with intention. The extra five minutes? That’s my buffer to hit snooze once or savor a sip of water before settling in.

3. Write—For Me

Starting this blog has been an incredible creative outlet, and I’m excited to continue shaping its aesthetic and mission. But I also want to ensure I’m writing for myself—about what brings me joy and sparks my curiosity. When I’m authentic in my writing, I’m confident it will resonate with others. Writing is a gift I want to give both to myself and to this community.

4. Focus on Cooking

Having recently moved to Hawaii, my partner and I have been more intentional about cooking at home. With food prices so high, it’s not just about saving money—it’s about cultivating a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle. One thing that’s been a game-changer for us is receiving a bi-weekly produce box from Oahu Fresh. Fresh fruits and veggies delivered to our door have inspired us to get creative in the kitchen and embrace the vibrant flavors of the islands.

5. Delete Instagram and TikTok

This year, I’m saying goodbye to Instagram and TikTok. While they’re entertaining, I’ve realized they don’t bring me the joy or inspiration I’m seeking. Instead, I’m focusing on platforms like Pinterest and Lemon8, which emphasize growth, creativity, and learning. By curating content that uplifts and educates me, I’m reclaiming my time and energy.

These resolutions may seem simple, but I believe they’ll make a meaningful impact. Each one is a small step toward a larger goal: living a life that feels intentional, balanced, and aligned with my values. Here’s to a new year filled with growth, joy, and discovery—one step, one meal, one word at a time.
